An androgen receptor inhibitor for advanced prostate cancer. Enzalutamide or Xtandi treats castration resistant prostate cancer, the stage when cancer progresses despite low testosterone. It blocks androgen receptors more completely than older drugs. Enzalutamide was developed based on research into why earlier hormone therapies failed. The drug significantly extends survival in advanced prostate cancer. Side effects include fatigue and rarely seizures.
