About Ranitidine
An H2 receptor blocker that was one of the most used medications in the world. Ranitidine or Zantac reduced stomach acid by blocking histamine H2 receptors. In 2019, ranitidine was found to contain NDMA, a probable carcinogen that increased over time and with heat. All ranitidine products were recalled and withdrawn from the market in 2020. The withdrawal affected millions of patients who switched to PPIs or famotidine. The ranitidine recall was one of the largest drug recalls in history.
