About Enalapril
An ACE inhibitor that was one of the first successful drugs in its class. Enalapril or Vasotec treats high blood pressure and heart failure. It is a prodrug converted to the active enalaprilat in the liver. Enalapril was developed by Merck and revolutionized heart failure treatment. It reduces mortality in heart failure by reducing the workload on the heart. Enalapril is on the WHO essential medicines list and is widely available as an inexpensive generic.
