Eplerenone
About Eplerenone
A selective aldosterone receptor antagonist similar to spironolactone but with fewer hormonal side effects. Eplerenone or Inspra treats heart failure and high blood pressure. It improves survival after heart attacks in patients with left ventricular dysfunction. Eplerenone does not cause the breast enlargement or menstrual irregularities seen with spironolactone because it is more selective for aldosterone receptors. The drug is more expensive than spironolactone but is preferred for patients who experience hormonal side effects.
