About Mirtazapine
A tetracyclic antidepressant that enhances serotonin and norepinephrine activity. Mirtazapine or Remeron treats depression, particularly when sleep and appetite are impaired. It causes sedation and weight gain, which can be beneficial in depressed patients with insomnia and weight loss. Its sedating effect is often used to aid sleep. It has fewer sexual side effects than SSRIs. The drug is sometimes combined with SSRIs or SNRIs for enhanced antidepressant effect, a strategy called California Rocket Fuel.
