Tetanus Vaccine
About Tetanus Vaccine
A vaccine against tetanus, a bacterial infection causing severe muscle spasms. Tetanus bacteria are found in soil and enter through wounds. Roughly one in ten people infected die, even with treatment. The tetanus vaccine uses detoxified tetanus toxin or toxoid. It is given in combination vaccines such as DTaP and Tdap as part of national immunisation schedules, which vary by country. Tetanus vaccination has dramatically reduced the disease in developed countries.
