Risperidone
About Risperidone
An atypical antipsychotic marketed as Risperdal. Risperidone treats schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and irritability associated with autism. It was the first medication approved for autism related behavioral problems. Risperidone is effective for positive symptoms of schizophrenia including hallucinations and delusions. It can cause weight gain, sedation, and elevated prolactin levels. Long acting injectable formulations improve adherence in schizophrenia patients.
