Apixaban
About Apixaban
A direct factor Xa inhibitor that is the preferred oral anticoagulant for many patients. Apixaban or Eliquis treats atrial fibrillation and blood clots. It has lower bleeding risk than warfarin and does not require monitoring. Dosing is individualised and set by a prescriber. The drug has become the market leader among DOACs due to its safety profile and efficacy. Major bleeding remains the primary risk. Andexanet alfa was approved as a reversal agent in 2018.
