Rivaroxaban
About Rivaroxaban
A direct oral anticoagulant or DOAC that does not require blood monitoring. Rivaroxaban or Xarelto treats atrial fibrillation, deep vein thrombosis, and pulmonary embolism. It works by directly inhibiting factor Xa. Rivaroxaban was the first oral direct factor Xa inhibitor. Major bleeding is the primary risk, and until recently there was no specific reversal agent. The drug is much more convenient than warfarin and has become a first choice for many patients.
