About Azithromycin

A macrolide antibiotic with a long half life that permits infrequent dosing and short treatment courses. The Z Pak became one of the most prescribed antibiotics in the US. Azithromycin treats bronchitis, pneumonia, chlamydia, and strep throat. It has fewer drug interactions than erythromycin. Azithromycin works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. Concerns about cardiac QT prolongation led to FDA warnings in 2013.
