Aztreonam
About Aztreonam
A monobactam antibiotic active only against gram negative bacteria. Aztreonam or Azactam treats infections caused by E coli, Klebsiella, Pseudomonas, and other gram negative organisms. It has no activity against gram positive bacteria or anaerobes. Aztreonam is unique because it rarely causes allergic reactions in penicillin allergic patients, making it valuable for patients with severe beta lactam allergies. The drug is given intravenously. Aztreonam is used for serious gram negative infections in allergic patients.
