About Ceftaroline

A fifth generation cephalosporin and one of the few beta lactam antibiotics active against MRSA. Ceftaroline or Teflaro treats complicated skin infections, including those caused by MRSA, and community acquired pneumonia. It binds to penicillin binding protein 2a, the mechanism that makes MRSA resistant to other beta lactams. Ceftaroline is given intravenously. The drug fills an important niche as a beta lactam option for MRSA, a class generally better tolerated than vancomycin.
