About Ceftazidime

A third generation cephalosporin with excellent activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Ceftazidime or Fortaz treats hospital acquired pneumonia, bloodstream infections, and infections in immunocompromised patients. It is a key antibiotic for febrile neutropenia in cancer patients. Ceftazidime is combined with avibactam as Zavcefta to overcome beta lactamase resistance. The drug is given intravenously. It is essential for empiric coverage of resistant gram negative infections in hospitalized patients.
