About Cisplatin

A platinum based chemotherapy drug. Cisplatin or Platinol treats testicular, bladder, ovarian, and lung cancers. It revolutionized testicular cancer treatment, raising remission rates from about 5 to 10 percent to 75 to 85 percent within a decade. Before cisplatin, testicular cancer was often fatal. The drug works by causing crosslinks in DNA, preventing cancer cell division. Cisplatin causes severe nausea, kidney damage, and hearing loss. Anti nausea medications and hydration protocols have improved tolerability. It is on the WHO essential medicines list.
