About Cyclophosphamide

A widely used chemotherapy drug. Cyclophosphamide or Cytoxan treats lymphoma, leukemia, breast cancer, and autoimmune diseases. It works by alkylating DNA, preventing cell division. Cyclophosphamide is a prodrug activated by liver enzymes. The drug can cause bladder damage, infertility, and secondary cancers. Aggressive hydration and the protective agent mesna reduce bladder toxicity. At lower doses, cyclophosphamide treats autoimmune conditions including lupus and vasculitis. It remains a backbone of chemotherapy regimens.
