Doxorubicin
About Doxorubicin
A powerful chemotherapy drug in the anthracycline class. Doxorubicin or Adriamycin treats breast cancer, lymphoma, leukemia, and many other cancers. It works by intercalating DNA and inhibiting topoisomerase II. The drug is bright red, earning the nickname the red devil. Doxorubicin can cause cumulative heart damage, limiting the total lifetime dose. Dexrazoxane protects the heart in some patients. Despite toxicity, doxorubicin remains one of the most effective broad spectrum chemotherapy agents.
