Vincristine
About Vincristine
A chemotherapy drug derived from the Madagascar periwinkle plant. Vincristine or Oncovin treats acute lymphoblastic leukemia, the most common childhood cancer. It works by inhibiting microtubule formation, preventing cell division. Vincristine is a key component of the R CHOP lymphoma regimen. The drug causes peripheral neuropathy, which can be severe and permanent. Unlike most chemotherapy, vincristine causes little bone marrow suppression. It is on the WHO essential medicines list and remains essential for childhood leukemia treatment.
