An imidazole antifungal available over the counter. Clotrimazole or Lotrimin treats vaginal yeast infections, athletes foot, jock itch, and ringworm. It works by disrupting fungal cell membrane synthesis. Clotrimazole is available as creams, lozenges, and vaginal suppositories. The drug is one of the most used over the counter antifungals. For oral thrush, clotrimazole lozenges are dissolved in the mouth. Clotrimazole is inexpensive, safe, and effective for common fungal infections.
