Voriconazole
About Voriconazole
A triazole antifungal and the treatment of choice for invasive aspergillosis. Voriconazole or Vfend treats Aspergillus infections, which are deadly in immunocompromised patients including transplant recipients and leukemia patients. It works by inhibiting fungal cell membrane synthesis. Voriconazole causes visual disturbances including bright lights and colors, which can be alarming. Blood level monitoring is commonly used because metabolism varies greatly between individuals. Voriconazole significantly improved survival from invasive aspergillosis compared to amphotericin B.
