About Crizotinib

A targeted therapy for a rare genetic subtype of lung cancer. Crizotinib or Xalkori treats non small cell lung cancer with ALK gene rearrangements, found in about 5 percent of lung cancer patients. It demonstrates the power of precision medicine: identifying a specific genetic driver and targeting it. Crizotinib can produce dramatic responses in ALK positive patients. The drug is taken orally. Resistance mutations eventually develop, leading to next generation ALK inhibitors. Crizotinib validated the approach of molecularly targeted cancer therapy.
