About Erlotinib

An EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor. Erlotinib or Tarceva treats non small cell lung cancer with EGFR mutations and pancreatic cancer. It was one of the first targeted therapies for lung cancer. EGFR mutations are common in Asian non smokers with lung cancer. Erlotinib causes a characteristic acne like rash, which actually correlates with treatment effectiveness. It is an oral drug. Resistance inevitably develops through additional mutations. Erlotinib pioneered personalized lung cancer treatment based on genetic testing.
