Enoxaparin
About Enoxaparin
A low molecular weight heparin or LMWH. Enoxaparin or Lovenox prevents and treats blood clots. It replaced unfractionated heparin for many uses because it can be given subcutaneously, usually without routine monitoring. Enoxaparin is widely used in hospitals for preventing clots after surgery and in patients with acute coronary syndromes. The main risk is bleeding. Heparin induced thrombocytopenia is rare with enoxaparin compared to unfractionated heparin. It is on the WHO essential medicines list and remains a standard anticoagulant in hospital care.
