About Ertapenem

A carbapenem antibiotic with a long half life that permits infrequent dosing. Ertapenem or Invanz treats community acquired infections including intra abdominal infections, skin infections, pneumonia, and pelvic infections. Unlike other carbapenems, ertapenem does not cover Pseudomonas, limiting its hospital use. Its infrequent dosing makes it suitable for outpatient intravenous antibiotic therapy. Ertapenem is valuable for transitioning patients from hospital to home antibiotic treatment, reducing hospital stays and costs.
