About Evolocumab

A PCSK9 inhibitor that is the best selling drug in its class. Evolocumab or Repatha treats familial hypercholesterolemia and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Like alirocumab, it lowers LDL cholesterol by about 60 percent when added to statins. The FOURIER trial demonstrated reduced cardiovascular events including heart attacks and strokes. Evolocumab is given by subcutaneous injection. In FOURIER, the primary composite cardiovascular endpoint was reduced by about 15 percent. The drug is expensive but represents a breakthrough for patients with stubbornly high cholesterol.
