Rituximab
About Rituximab
The first monoclonal antibody approved for cancer treatment. Rituximab or Rituxan targets CD20, a protein on B lymphocytes. It treats non Hodgkin lymphoma and rheumatoid arthritis. Rituximab was a breakthrough in targeted cancer therapy, demonstrating that antibodies could treat cancer. The drug depletes B cells, which can increase infection risk. Rituximab is also used for autoimmune conditions including multiple sclerosis. It remains one of the most widely used and successful cancer biologics.
