About Finasteride

A medication that treats enlarged prostate and male pattern baldness. Finasteride or Proscar treats benign prostatic hyperplasia by shrinking the prostate. At lower doses, it is marketed as Propecia for hair loss. Finasteride works by inhibiting 5 alpha reductase, the enzyme that converts testosterone to DHT. The drug can cause sexual side effects including reduced libido and erectile dysfunction. These effects may persist after stopping the medication, a condition called post finasteride syndrome. Despite controversy, finasteride remains effective for BPH and hair loss.
