About Gemcitabine

A chemotherapy drug used for some of the most difficult cancers. Gemcitabine or Gemzar treats pancreatic cancer, non small cell lung cancer, bladder cancer, and ovarian cancer. It works by inhibiting DNA synthesis. Pancreatic cancer remains one of the deadliest cancers, and gemcitabine was the first drug to show survival benefit. The drug is given intravenously. Side effects include bone marrow suppression, fatigue, and flu like symptoms. Gemcitabine remains a backbone of pancreatic cancer treatment.
