About Hydrocortisone

A corticosteroid identical to natural cortisol. Hydrocortisone or Cortef treats adrenal insufficiency including Addisons disease and congenital adrenal hyperplasia. Topical hydrocortisone is available over the counter for skin inflammation including eczema, rashes, and insect bites. Injectable hydrocortisone is used for severe allergic reactions and adrenal crisis. The drug is on the WHO essential medicines list.
