About Ipratropium

A short acting anticholinergic bronchodilator. Ipratropium or Atrovent treats COPD and asthma by blocking muscarinic receptors in airways. It is often combined with albuterol in nebulizer treatments for acute exacerbations. Ipratropium works within 15 minutes and lasts 3 to 4 hours. The drug is also used as a nasal spray for runny nose. It is less potent than beta agonists for acute bronchospasm but provides complementary bronchodilation when combined.
