About Salmeterol

A long acting beta 2 agonist or LABA that provides 12 hour bronchodilation. Salmeterol or Serevent treats asthma and COPD when combined with inhaled corticosteroids. Its labeling warns against use without an inhaled corticosteroid in asthma because it can mask worsening inflammation. The SMART study showed that salmeterol without steroids increased asthma death risk. Combination inhalers like Advair combine salmeterol with fluticasone for safe, effective asthma control.
