Isoniazid
About Isoniazid
A first line tuberculosis medication that kills actively dividing TB bacteria. Isoniazid is used for both active TB treatment and latent TB prevention. It works by inhibiting mycolic acid synthesis in the TB bacterial cell wall. Isoniazid can cause liver toxicity and peripheral neuropathy, so vitamin B6 is often co prescribed. Combined with rifampin, ethambutol, and pyrazinamide, isoniazid forms the standard TB treatment regimen.
