About Lamivudine
A nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor used for both HIV and hepatitis B. Lamivudine or 3TC was one of the first effective HIV medications. Combined with other drugs in triple therapy, it transformed HIV from a death sentence into a manageable condition. Lamivudine is well tolerated and widely available as a generic. It is a component of fixed dose combination pills for HIV. It is also used to suppress hepatitis B. It is on the WHO essential medicines list.
