Remdesivir
About Remdesivir
An antiviral medication that gained attention during the COVID-19 pandemic. Remdesivir or Veklury was originally developed for Ebola but was repurposed for COVID-19. It works by inhibiting viral RNA polymerase. Administered intravenously, remdesivir modestly reduces recovery time in hospitalized COVID-19 patients. It was the first FDA approved treatment for COVID-19. Its effectiveness has been debated, with the WHO suggesting limited benefit. It remains used for severe COVID-19 cases in hospitals.
