About Latanoprost

A prostaglandin analog eye drop that lowers intraocular pressure. Latanoprost or Xalatan treats glaucoma, the leading cause of irreversible blindness. It works by increasing aqueous humor outflow through the uveoscleral pathway. A notable side effect is increased iris pigmentation, making light colored eyes darker and more uniform. Eyelash growth is also enhanced, a class effect that led the related drug bimatoprost to be marketed cosmetically as Latisse. Latanoprost is a first line glaucoma treatment.
