Meropenem
About Meropenem
A broad spectrum carbapenem antibiotic reserved for the most serious infections. Meropenem treats hospital acquired pneumonia, meningitis, sepsis, and infections caused by multidrug resistant bacteria. It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. Carbapenems are considered antibiotics of last resort. The emergence of carbapenem resistant organisms or CRO is one of the most frightening developments in antimicrobial resistance. Meropenem is on the WHO essential medicines list and is essential for treating the most difficult bacterial infections.
