Methotrexate
About Methotrexate
A versatile medication used in oncology, rheumatology, and dermatology. Methotrexate treats certain cancers, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and ectopic pregnancy. At high doses it treats cancer by inhibiting DNA synthesis. At low doses it treats autoimmune diseases through anti inflammatory mechanisms. Methotrexate revolutionized rheumatoid arthritis treatment and became its anchor disease modifying drug. Folic acid supplementation reduces side effects. The drug is teratogenic and contraindicated in pregnancy.
