Metronidazole
About Metronidazole
An antibiotic effective against anaerobic bacteria and certain parasites. Metronidazole treats bacterial vaginosis, giardiasis, amoebic dysentery, and C. difficile infections. It has long been reported to cause a disulfiram like reaction with alcohol, including nausea and vomiting. Metronidazole works by damaging DNA in susceptible organisms. It is inexpensive and on the WHO essential medicines list. The drug is also used in combination therapy for H. pylori stomach ulcers.
