About Midazolam
A short acting benzodiazepine used for sedation before procedures. Midazolam or Versed causes sedation, anxiety relief, and amnesia. It is given intravenously before surgery, dental procedures, and other medical interventions. Midazolam works within minutes and wears off quickly. The drug is also used for status epilepticus, a medical emergency of continuous seizures. Midazolam can cause respiratory depression, particularly when combined with opioids. It is on the WHO essential medicines list.
