Nabumetone
About Nabumetone
A non acid NSAID prodrug that is converted to its active form in the liver. Nabumetone or Relafen treats osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. It may cause less gastrointestinal irritation than other NSAIDs because the active compound is produced after absorption. The drug is less popular than newer NSAIDs but remains a useful option for patients who tolerate other NSAIDs poorly. It demonstrates how prodrug design can improve drug tolerability.
