Naloxone
About Naloxone
A life saving medication that reverses opioid overdoses. Naloxone or Narcan displaces opioids from receptors, immediately restoring breathing in overdose patients. It has no abuse potential and can be administered as a nasal spray by bystanders. Widespread naloxone distribution has saved thousands of lives. The medication was approved in 1971 but only became widely available to the public during the opioid epidemic. Naloxone is now available over the counter in many countries.
