About Ondansetron
A 5 HT3 receptor antagonist that revolutionized nausea treatment. Ondansetron or Zofran prevents nausea and vomiting from chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation therapy. Before ondansetron, chemotherapy induced vomiting was so severe that some patients refused treatment. The drug made outpatient chemotherapy feasible. Ondansetron is generally safe but can prolong the QT interval. It is on the WHO essential medicines list and is widely used in emergency departments for any cause of nausea.
