About Palbociclib

A CDK4/6 inhibitor that revolutionized treatment of hormone receptor positive breast cancer. Palbociclib or Ibrance treats metastatic breast cancer by blocking proteins that drive cancer cell division. Combined with hormone therapy, it significantly prolongs progression free survival. Palbociclib was the first CDK4/6 inhibitor approved, opening a new class of targeted breast cancer drugs. The main side effect is low blood counts requiring dose adjustments. The drug has become standard first line treatment for metastatic hormone positive breast cancer.
