In its pivotal trial in unvaccinated high risk adults, early treatment reduced hospitalization or death by about 88 percent. It was the first highly effective oral COVID treatment. Paxlovid interacts with many medications through the CYP3A enzyme system. It has been a game changer for preventing severe COVID in vulnerable patients.
