About Simethicone
A medication that relieves intestinal gas and bloating. Simethicone or Gas-X works by breaking up gas bubbles in the gut, making them easier to pass. It is available over the counter as chewable tablets, capsules, and liquid. Simethicone is inert and not absorbed from the intestine, making it very safe. The drug is commonly used for postoperative gas pain and infant colic. Despite limited evidence of effectiveness, simethicone remains one of the most used over the counter GI medications. It is often combined with other antacids.
