Sulindac
About Sulindac
An NSAID prodrug that may have less kidney toxicity than other NSAIDs. Sulindac or Clinoril treats osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and acute gout. It is converted to the active sulfide metabolite in the liver. Research has suggested sulindac may have anti cancer properties, particularly against colon polyps in familial adenomatous polyposis. This potential chemopreventive effect has been studied in clinical trials. Sulindac demonstrates how existing medications may have unexpected therapeutic applications beyond their original purpose.
