About Tetracycline

A broad spectrum antibiotic originally derived from Streptomyces bacteria. Tetracycline treats acne, respiratory infections, and tick borne diseases. It chelates with calcium, causing tooth discoloration in children. Tetracycline revolutionized acne treatment and remains widely used. The class includes doxycycline and minocycline. Tetracycline resistance is widespread but the drug remains useful for specific indications including Lyme disease and chlamydia.
